The dilemma presented by Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, is no longer an “uncommon” challenge in society, it is the new normal. When 5 million in Canada are dealing with addiction, and more than 40,000 die yearly as a result of their addictions, this instability is testimony to a sickness of the soul. The scriptures have solutions for this malaise, so we can avoid the dark works of the flesh and walk in the light of God’s Spirit. The story of Lot gives us some insight into God’s perspectives on living in a culture that rejects godly values and establishes its own “new normal.”
